Randy Battle

1941-2009

Randy Battle was born and raised in Albany, Georgia. He grew up picking cotton, and his schooling ended in the third grade. After getting in a fight, he spent time on a chain gang.  Returning home after jail, he heard about SNCC in Albany, and got involved. He joined the movement and became a SNCC Field Secretary, and traveling organizer, working in Georgia, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the SNCC Atlanta office, and Lowndes County, Alabama.
He worked with Charles Sherrod in Albany well into the 1970’s, and later was a driver for C.B. King in Albany for many years. Randy died in Albany in 2009.
