July 24, 2026 | 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM EDT | Virtual Event
You are part of this family.
Come home.
Forty years of math as a civil right. Forty years of young people discovering they belong. Forty years of educators who showed up. This July, the family gathers — everywhere you are.
95% of Black 12th graders are performing at or below basic proficiency in math. PreK-12 public education, math, and STEM education funding is under assault. The school to prison pipeline appears as a higher priority for some than quality public school education.
The reunion is a chance to name it together, out loud, with the people who have been holding this work across 40 years — and to decide what we do about it now.
In the spirit of the Ghanaian Akan proverb of the Sankofa Bird – “Se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi” (It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten) – this reunion seeks to revisit and recommit to the mission of Mathematics Literacy as the key to 21st century citizenship, and as a foundational component of quality public school PreK-12 education, which we believe should be a Constitutional right for all young people.
Held virtually, with informal watch parties in some locations –
Friday, July 24th, 3pm-5pmET (12pm-2pmPT)
RSVP for the Algebra Project Family Reunion
Designed for everyone who was ever part of this.
Whether you were a student in one of the first classrooms, a teacher who adapted the curriculum for your community, a parent who drove kids to workshops, or an organizer who held a site together — this gathering belongs to you. The only requirement is that you were, at some point, part of this family.
The event is hybrid. Virtual attendance is full attendance — not a livestream you watch, but a community you join. Local gatherings are forming in cities across the country.
- Free to attend
- Virtual event online & informal watch parties
- All generations welcome
“We started with one question: what does it take for all children to be prepared to fully participate in the economic and political life of this country?”
